Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I was active here, hasn't it? A lot has happened since I wrote my last journal entry. First of all, my Tumblr and Twitter usernames have changed. Now everything can be viewed under the name "StarstuffLady". I may also change my username here to match. Though, I am not very active on anything nowadays and do not expect to be! Which brings me to my next point...
I've become a very busy person! I now have three jobs, one is in retail as a clerk, which I have had for over a year now, but am not terribly fond of. Another, which I started in February and absolutely love, as a planetarium show presenter, sidewalk astronomer, and museum assistant at the local science museum. Finally, my most recently acquired job is working under my former astronomy professor as his assistant and physics lab technician.
In addition to acquiring two steady jobs that I love, I also have the wonderful opportunity to work on research in the Genomics lab at the Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh, and had the opportunity to present a poster on some of the research I helped with at a conference. I finally experienced what it is like to be a scientist! I also hold a position as a volunteer lead lab technician at my college's biodiversity center, and I coordinate and/or do scientific outreach for the biodiversity center as well. I do this all while being a student of biology, and soon, physics as well!
Another wonderful thing that happened to me recently that I thought I should share: I found out that I will receive the North Carolina Space Grant Community College Scholarship! This means that I can now afford to enroll full-time in the coming fall and spring semesters!
On another note, as you may have noticed, I still create artwork. It seems that my scientific work has inspired me to draw more than ever, actually! I now create illustrations to study, teach, and of course, just for the sake of it! I may or may not get around to posting some illustrations from my lab journal, but if you haven't seen the two new digital works, you're welcome to view my gallery, of course.
In short, I'm doing very well, but I won't be online very much. I won't completely abandon my account, so feel free to contact me if you wish, but please understand that my replies will be delayed and my posts will be few and far between. I don't know how many of my watchers are active now, but I would like to hear about how everyone else is doing!
